Orange rooms Gallery -

Orange Rooms was the place to be this Thursday night as DJ legends Scratch Perverts created a storm in one of the south coasts most legendary bars. Today; 3 members well known for their hip hop and battle DJing. Tony Vegas, Prime Cuts and Plus One pumped up the volume in one of Southampton’s leading bars to draw in the crowds of all ages and delivered an outstanding performance that kept the crowd dancing past 1am.

The 2 hour set which started at 11pm saw the Scratch Perverts dropping their latest heavy hitting and grimy dubstep which warmed up the packed dance floor. Their dubstep tunes have heavily dominated their DJ sets in recent years and tonight was no different as they certainly got the crowd going by mixing it up with classics from all genres such as electro, techno, a bit of indie and finally concluding with an amazing array of intense drum and bass. With remixes from artists such as Benga, DJ Mehdi, Pendulum, The Prodigy, MGMT, Justice, Daft Punk and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers; The Scratch Perverts delivered an immense combination of tunes that have dominated the dance music scene over the years and created a night of unforgettable tunes; as one of my friends couldn’t stop humming La Roux’s ‘In For the Kill’ when we made our way outside for some air!

The venue has been home to similar events with artists such as James Zabiela, Annie Mac, A Skills and JFB & Beardyman drawing in the crowds; however the bar has quite a small dance floor to satisfy the demanding crowd craving a night of unexpected tunes from all genres of music. A group of lads in front of me, who were obviously in touch with their dubstep excitedly jumped through the crowd whooping and cheering to the Scratch Perverts excellent and effortless skills on the decks. The heat on the dance floor, like at any other venue pulling in the country’s most amazing DJ’s, was something that was not unexpected however when it did get to hot, the quality outside area and comfy sofas inside are available to chill out on. Another thing I found was that the bar and the dance floor was lit up a bit too much especially in comparison to the outstanding lighting system at Junk, but then again Orange Rooms is well known for creating ‘good times’ day and night and the sound system makes the atmosphere just as good.

Overall the night successfully brought in a mix of people all their to see The Scratch Perverts mix it up on the decks and dance the night away. This summer they are fitted for the line up at Global Gathering, Glastonbury and Camp Bestival so if you are attending any of these festivals make sure this is one act you go and see! If you are interested in similar events at Orange Rooms then check out Radio 1’s Rob da Bank and friends on Thursday 14th May as he brings in talents Passion Pit and Ebony Bones.
