Bang Bang! Presents Caspa & Rusko @ Junk Club (10/07/09)…

DJ’s:
Caspa
Rusko
Underground Soundz
Bitr8
Scrufftopher

MC’s:
Rod Azlan

With a newly refurbished 2nd room, and attractive décor in the main room, Junk was set for one of the biggest nights in Southampton this year. A long awaited dubstep extravaganza provided by two of the scenes busiest producers. Following the success of Caspa’s debut album ‘Everybody’s Talking, Nobody’s Listening!’, and a string of releases from Rusko, including his latest Ep. ‘Babylon: Volume 2’, the anticipation was sky high.

After Scrufftopher had got the night underway, ‘Underground Soundz’ kept the dubstep vibes rolling with an exciting selection.

As I approached the booth, the improved sound system caught my attention, with warm and very powerful bass frequencies, and crystal clear mid-range and treble.

When it was announced that DJ’s Caspa & Rusko had arrived, the dance-floor became a carpet of ravers. The fun was about to begin…

As Caspa stepped up to the decks in Junk’s legendary DJ booth, MC Rod Azlan presented a very energetic set. Very well crafted mixing, provided maximum impact as each track dropped.

The atmosphere, already scorching, was turned up a notch as Caspa dropped a variety of dubstep anthems, including his own remix of the Deadmau5 anthem ‘I Remember’, and TC’s ‘Where’s My Money?’.

As Rusko prepared to supply Southampton with his take on the dubstep scene, Caspa reached for the microphone himself to say a few words to a 700 strong crowd, and introduce his last track. As ‘Cockney Violin’ dropped the crowd showed their appreciation. The dance-floor was hectic.

Rusko kept the true ravers on the dance-floor till gone 3am, with a set that even your grandma would have enjoyed! His track list showcased many of his own productions, including everyone’s favourites ‘Mr Chips’ and ‘Cockney Thug’ to which, he had everyone in the club screaming “Wake The F*** Up!”. Showing his musical roots, he even squeezed in ‘A Little Bit Of Luck’!

Ending his set with More Fire Crew’s garage classic ‘Oi!’, Bitr8 followed suit, and kept it grimey for a while, before switching to Fidget house and wrapping it up with upfront drum & bass.

This was a strong contender for best night of the year so far, with a powerful sound system, and a feel good atmosphere. Make sure you don’t miss the next one… Check the Junk Club website to hear Caspa & Rusko’s set again. It’s definitely worth another listen!
