Mix Mag @ Junk - Friendly Fires

Junk night Bang Bang has been churning out top names in the music industry since the beginning of the new uni term such as dubstep DJ Plastician and DnB legend Roni Size and this week was no exception. With Radio One’s In New DJ’s We Trust, Jaymo and Andy George smashing up the venue in style with an all electro set which lasted a good hour or so. Since they have secured a regular slot on Radio One and performed numerous performances with Junk favorite Kissy Sell Out. Jaymo and Andy George have gained a huge army of fans, one being myself and as the Mixmag Tour hit the south coast this Friday so did a small array of fans who gathered at the front of the DJ booth to catch a glimpse of their DJ heroes in action!

The duo started the night with box fresh electro which definitely had me and my friend dancing non-stop for the next hour up the front. However considering the line up (with Friendly Fires being put down for a DJ set as well), the club didn’t look half as packed as it has done in the recent past which could have been because this club is now soo much bigger! That’s right Junks had a refit and its looking good for it too. With a booth that’s now at the centre of the club where the ravers get right down and durrty and a sound system that can fill with any inch of the venue and then fuck with your ear drums this only leaves you knowing one thing; Junks the best kitted out club in Southampton and it’s the place you and your friends want to be to enjoy your favorite artists as they are guaranteed to deliver with the perfect setting.

Jaymo and Andy George are two DJ’s who are definitely creating a riot in the dance industry with a fairly new, exciting show on Radio One and brilliant DJ sets from their nights at Moda to their fresh set in the Junk DJ booth this week which had people on the dance floor going crazy throughout! What with the night being hosted by the biggest dance music magazine in the industry, its another shame the club wasn’t actually crammed with true Mixmag lovers there to witness the set of the night. This unfortunately is another occasion where you can’t fault the club but the punters. Town was dead and Junk seemed to empty out a little as Friendly Fires hit the decks at 2.30. Ive been huge fan of FF since seeing them perform live at Reading Festival and it’s a shame that there weren’t more true fans there to catch them in action. Maybe techno is not what you come to expect from the Friendly Fires latest offering in DJ sets but the people at this night were having it.

All in all Junk always manages to create the right atmosphere and Jaymo and Andy George definitely deserve the crown of the booth for the night.

If you want to see Friendly Fires in action check out Mixmag’s Christmas Party at Matter on December 4th. No doubt I’ll be there raving up at the front!
