Reading Day 1
Words by Ollie Martin

"Yo so reading festival.

Day 1.

Ok so it seems now tradition that I get myself into reading each year. So first off big thanks to jo for the aaa pass!

Today I managed to see the following..

Get cape where cape fly – Good starter band for the festival on the main stage but I don’t like their music so im always going to give them a bad name.

Taking back Sunday – I hate. But lots of people enjoyed them so they must have been good!?

Dizzee rascal – Utter shit! However I did seem to find I knew most of his songs.

Serj Tankian – Good but no system just on his own!

“SPLIFFY” clyro – Amazing as usual. I didn’t pick the best spot and managed to get crushed and trampled on.

The Enemy – Just what I like to see. Something new for me to digest and they are worth a listen!

Goldfinger – 9/10! They took the lock up stage down! That shit was so crazy I was almost on my ass!! I love these guys, they put on such a show. Oh the drummer even made a fan eat something out of his ass on stage!! BELIEVE! I watched the guys come off the stage backstage and you can really see how much energy they give their sets. However the front man still managed to give me a delightful smile! These guys will never give up and were born for this shit!

Queens of the stone age – Ok right well. 7/10. Josh was great as usual but it was the set list that was my main concern. You would of thought a band playing a big festival and second from headlining would stick to mostly their main hits and maybe a few new ones for promotion. Crowd pleasers should be how it goes down! However it was rather shocking to hear so many of the “unpopular” queens songs in there! They missed out two of their popular songs!? Strange we all thought. But never the less they managed to rock that shit out!

Rage against the machine – So I asked myself the question. Babyshambles or Rage. No question I thought. Rage opened their killer set to the sound of air raid sirens and kitted out in full prison gear with hoods over their faces. Any photographers nightmare! Thank god I was not shooting this festival! However that image WILL be a statement for the print media! The set of course was always going to have a political theme to it. How could it not when its rage!? They hammered away with all the classics evenly spaced out through out the set so that no one got too lost in the hour and a half long show. Im sure people were saying to themselves “I never knew rage played this one!” all the way through. There was never too much banter and just more content after content. All credit to the solid performance by rages drummer and especially the guitarist as this was a performance lead by them! The great thing about rage is that they are all effort and message. They deliver it as well as it should be.

Ok so that all makes no sense. That will teach me to type something up late after the festival."
